Kim Jones is a licensed California Marriage and Family Therapist (MFC37708). She has been providing counseling to individuals/couples, children/teens and families since 1998 and prior to that in other professions including teaching and recreational camping in both private and the non-profit special populations sector. Kim holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on marriage and family from Pepperdine University. She currently lives in San Diego and has three teen/young adult children. Kim also offers personal and professional coaching services aimed at helping clients discover and reach new potentials in their lives, career or parenting.
Kim aims to develop an understanding about your specific situation. Her goal is to address specific concerns as well as work with you to improve relationships and to facilitate breakthroughs, positive changes and to reach new goals. She utilizes strategic interventions, human needs psychology, family systems and cognitive-behavioral perspectives, while integrating solution-focused and problem-solving techniques. Her supportive and nurturing environment assists individuals, children and families to address their difficulties and to help to create solutions which will make a difference in their families and lives.
Last year she completed Level 1 training in Gottman Method Couples Therapy, a proven research-based method to help couples gain skills, process fights and deepen their intimacy. In 2009 she received an Advanced certification in Strategic Intervention through the Madanes Training Institute. She is a founding class member of the Robbins-Madanes Strategic Intervention Training program learning from the collaborative work of Cloe Madanes and Tony Robbins.
Her experience working as a teacher and counselor in the school systems as well as owning a small business give her valuable insight to interface and understand her clients environments. In San Diego County, she has provided contract based school counseling in the Poway Unified and Vista School Districts. She interfaces comfortably and collaborates with teachers, school personnel and other professionals in the community. Kim offers presentations to the community and can visit your group to speak on a variety of topics such as parenting issues, communication skills, goal setting, couples relationship skills, and stress management. She is also a member of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT), and the San Diego CAMFT chapters and continues to pursue continuing education to enhance her practice methods and outcomes.
